WELCOME to WhirlingEarth.com. We sincerely hope you will enjoy our on-line shopping experience and the products we make. If you are ever in the area we invite you to stop by our gallery in Wamego, Kansas, where we have many other items that are not displayed here.

We invite one-off special orders and requests. Our customers can be a great source of ideas. If you have a new concept or something in mind that you do not see here, please CONTACT US with your needs. While we cannot exactly duplicate ware from other sources, we can often “interpret” it to make items somewhat similar in size, form, and color. We also make “sets” of table settings of our original patterns. Please allow about 4-to-6 weeks for production. A monetary deposit at time of order may be required for custom items.

We also invite dealers to inquire for special discounts and terms on bulk orders.

At Whirling Earth, we consider ourselves primarily to be craftspeople and secondarily, artists.

Our main objective is to provide our public with non toxic and highly useable objects, that “earn their keep” by providing a useful service or function: holding a plant, preparing and/or serving food, displaying floral arrangements, storage, or other practical uses.

But we are not soulless utensil-makers. We always strive to combine beauty with functionality. When we are successful in achieving a balanced harmony of relevant form, color, texture, and function, what manifests is an object that will elegantly serve a purpose, is pleasing to the eye and hand, and brings joy to the user. So we do incorporate conceptual aspects and features into our work such as sacred geometry, natural proportion, numerology, and religious symbolism. When blended into the piece, such elements can convey positive emotion and subliminal appeal.

We source a wide range of influences to inspire our work: ancient mediterranean, middle eastern and oriental pieces, celtic art, colonial and native American forms, art nouveau, art deco, and mid 20th century modernism.

Also, we are proud to carry on the “Made in the U.S.A.” tradition of quality manufacturing. We use only the finest materials and methods. We use Kansas-made custom blended clay bodies to form each piece by hand. We make our own glazes from basic raw materials so the colors and textures we offer are also unique to our ware. No commercial glazes are used. Our clay is fired in a modern, efficient natural gas kiln to 1800F to purge it of impurities before glazing. We then fire the glazed ware to 2350F. This costly "high fire" method fuses the clay into ware that is very hard and strong, chemically inert, and completely waterproof. The result is wares that REALLY ARE BETTER than the cheap earthenware imports found at the big box stores. NO lead or other toxic materials are used in our ware. It is dishwasher durable, microwaveable and completely food safe for you and your family.

So come in, browse around, and enjoy our on-line store. We’re glad you clicked on us!
